Kras in Brkini – permanentni brevet 200 km

Opis trase

Permanentni brevet Kras in Brkini je 202,7 kilometra dolga krožna kolesarska preizkušnja, ki povezuje Vipavsko dolino, Kras in Brkine. Štart in cilj sta v Prvačini, pred Domom Krajevne skupnosti.

Brkini z gozdovi, sadovnjaki, samotnimi domačijami in slikovitimi vasmi predstavljajo enega najzanimivejših delov breveta. Znani so po jabolkih, slivah in brkinskem slivovcu.

Kulturne, naravne in druge znamenitosti

Vipavska dolina in Prvačina

Kras in Divača

Kras zaznamujejo kraški pojavi, kamnite hiše, suhozidi in rdeča zemlja – jerina. Divača je pomembno železniško križišče. V Škrateljnovi domačiji deluje Muzej slovenskih filmskih igralcev, povezan tudi z igralko Ito Rino.

Brkini

Brkini so gričevnata pokrajina med Krasom, dolino Reke in Pivško kotlino. Odlikujejo jih gozdovi, sadovnjaki in manjše vasi. Ohranili so tradicionalno kulturno krajino; znani so po jabolkih, slivah in brkinskem slivovcu. Razgledne ceste so pogosto razmeroma malo prometne.

Grad Prem – srednjeveški biser nad dolino Reke

Grad Prem je ena osrednjih kulturnozgodovinskih znamenitosti breveta. Stoji na vzpetini nad vasjo Prem in dolino reke Reke. Njegovi začetki segajo v prvo polovico 13. stoletja; prvič je pisno omenjen leta 1213. Imel je obrambno in strateško vlogo pri nadzoru poti skozi dolino.

Grad je skozi stoletja menjal lastnike in bil večkrat prezidan, a je ohranil srednjeveško zasnovo. Zanimivi so obzidje, dvorišče, obrambni elementi in kapela.

Cerkev sv.

Območje zaznamujejo Velika in Mala dolina, udornice, naravni mostovi in drugi kraški pojavi.

Sežana in kraška dediščina

Kras in Brkini – 200 km Permanent Brevet

Route description

The Kras and Brkini permanent brevet is a 202.7 km circular cycling challenge connecting three distinct Slovenian landscapes: the Vipava Valley, the Karst plateau and the Brkini Hills. The start and finish are in Prvačina, in front of the Local Community Centre.

From the Vipava Valley, riders gradually climb onto the Karst plateau, passing traditional stone villages, dry-stone walls, vineyards and panoramic views. The route reaches Divača, home to the first checkpoint, before continuing into the rolling Brkini Hills.

With their forests, orchards, isolated farmsteads and picturesque villages, the Brkini Hills are among the most attractive parts of the ride. The area is known for apples, plums and traditional Brkini plum brandy. The roads wind continuously up and down the hills.

One of the highlights is Prem Castle overlooking the Reka River valley. The route then climbs into the higher Brkini Hills before descending towards the Škocjan Caves. From there it heads to Sežana and returns across the Karst to Prvačina.

Cultural, natural and other attractions

Vipava Valley and Prvačina

The Vipava Valley is known for winegrowing, fruit cultivation, picturesque settlements and the strong bora wind. Prvačina is an old settlement on the Vipava River with a rich winegrowing and cultural heritage, also known for its traditional peach festival.

Karst and Divača

The Karst is characterised by limestone landforms, stone houses, dry-stone walls and distinctive red soil (terra rossa). Divača is an important railway junction. The Museum of Slovenian Film Actors in the historic Škratelj House also celebrates the internationally known actress Ita Rina.

Brkini Hills

The Brkini Hills lie between the Karst, the Reka River valley and the Pivka Basin. They feature forests, orchards and small villages, with much of the traditional rural landscape preserved. Apples, plums and local plum brandy are regional specialities. Many scenic roads have relatively light traffic.

Prem Castle – a medieval landmark above the Reka Valley

Prem Castle is one of the brevet’s principal cultural and historical landmarks. It stands on a hill above the village of Prem and the Reka River valley. Its origins date to the first half of the 13th century, and it was first mentioned in written records in 1213. It once played a defensive and strategic role in controlling routes through the valley.

Over the centuries, the castle changed owners and underwent several alterations, yet retained its medieval character. Notable features include its walls, courtyard, defensive structures and chapel. Today it has been restored for cultural and tourism uses. The castle grounds offer beautiful views over the valley and the Brkini Hills.

Prem is also the birthplace of Dragotin Kette (1876–1899), a leading poet of Slovenian literary modernism. A memorial exhibition is housed in his birthplace, the former school. The Church of St Helena is noted for murals by Tone Kralj. The castle’s history, architecture and setting make it a fitting second checkpoint.

Škocjan Caves – a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Škocjan Caves have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1986. Their most striking feature is the immense underground canyon carved by the Reka River, which disappears beneath the Karst and continues towards the Timavo springs in Italy. The area also features the Great and Little Collapse Dolines, natural bridges and other karst formations.

Sežana and Karst heritage

Sežana is one of the main towns of the Slovenian Karst. Its attractions include the botanical garden beside Villa Mirasasso. The town is associated with poet Srečko Kosovel (1904–1926), commemorated in a memorial room. The surrounding region is known for Teran wine, Karst prosciutto and traditional stone architecture.
